How we teach

Three commitments we have not moved on since 2022.

Sixteen Seats, Held

When a cohort fills we open a waiting list rather than adding chairs. Everyone speaks every week and the instructor reads everybody's work. More on the cap.

Practice On Real Work

You bring a live project, a real team or an actual document. Every week ends with something to try before the next session, and the next session opens with how it went.

Instructors Who Still Practice

Nobody here teaches full time. Every instructor works in the field they teach, which is why the examples are current and the answers are specific.

Start here

Four courses people most often take first.

All four are beginner level and assume no prior training, only that you have work to apply them to.

Enrollment

Cohorts open quarterly. You apply, and a person replies.

There is no checkout button and no instant access. We read every application because putting somebody in the wrong course helps nobody, and a few times each quarter we tell an applicant to wait or to take something else first.

  1. 01

    Send an application

Use the enrollment form or write to us. Tell us the course, what you want to do differently, and how much time you can protect.

  2. 02

We reply in two business days

A real person reads it. If a different course suits you better, or a later quarter does, we will say so.

  3. 03

    Take your seat

If it is a fit, we send a place offer and a payment link. Your seat is held for seven days.

  4. 04

    Start with your cohort

Sixteen people, one live session a week, and practice applied to your own work between sessions.

Who teaches

Five instructors, each still working in their field.

Read a full profile to see how each of them runs a room, and which courses they teach.

Ilene Castorena

Manager transitions and team performance

Every session ends with a sentence you have to say to a real person that week, and the next session starts with how it went.

Desmond Whitlark

Delivery planning and workload design

You bring a live project. By the last week you have a plan for it that survives contact with your actual stakeholders.

Yasmin Halloran

Analysis and reporting for people who are not analysts

We work with genuinely messy data, including the duplicate rows and the inconsistent dates, because clean sample files teach the wrong instincts.

Soren Klepacki

Interface design and front end craft

Nothing is finished until the empty state, the error state and the loading state are drawn. Those are the screens your users will actually meet.

Beatrix Onwuka

Speaking, facilitation and workplace writing

You will be recorded speaking in the first session and again in the last one, and you will watch both. Progress you can see is progress you keep.
